The menopause symptom no one talks about

When we read anything about the menopause, the same symptoms and discussions seem to come up time after time; hot flushes, brain fog, losing things and grumpiness. These are often presented as amusing; getting fed up with husbands and children, forgetting why we’ve walked into a room, and whipping off our cardigans. While all these things may affect women at this stage of life, most of us don’t really find them especially funny! However, there are other symptoms that I see and talk about in hypnotherapy sessions much more frequently, and the one that comes up most is anxiety (sleep problems are a close second).
I see women in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s feeling overwhelmed, unable to relax, worrying endlessly, sometimes about health, often not specific. This time of life is often also accompanied by caring responsibilities and wider life changes that can make symptoms feel worse. These women are carrying it all; aging parents, children leaving home, spousal health issues, and all before a day at work! Sometimes the symptoms are expressed physically; headaches, insomnia or gut problems. Sometimes it’s a feeling of numbness or wanting to just get in the car and leave. Many say things like ‘I feel like I’m losing it!’ or ‘I don’t know how much more I can take’.
Of course, this kind of anxiety is not unique to menopause, I see men with the same concerns, but the important thing to understand is that it doesn’t have to be like this. I use a combination of BLAST technique and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to help people start to feel like themselves again. If anxiety is impacting your life, get in touch.
