Life after 60

There’s a point in life when it seems as though no one quite knows where someone fits; people may be still working, and happy to be there, or looking for more balance but not ready to retire yet. They may have 5 grandchildren, or none. Recently divorced, or celebrating golden weddings. Looking for new love, or blissfully single! I’m talking about people over 60, the age I was slightly astonished to reach this year.
This demographic has changed in recent years I think; the delaying of state retirement age means that previous routes of giving up work to volunteer (or play golf) may be less available now, and as children settle down later, looking after grandchildren may not be the requirement it once was.
When things are going well, this extra choice is a good thing, but for some people the changes can be more challenging; adapting to health issues, dealing with loss or navigating change that wasn’t expected, and this is where hypnotherapy can be helpful.
As life expectancy for this age group has extended, and people are typically living to 90 and beyond, what to do with this 3rd stage of life has become a more pressing question, but it is true that life after 60 still contains new beginnings and interesting challenges, and we owe it to ourselves to make these work for us.
There’s a great book called ‘The 100 Year Life’ by Lynda Gratton and Andrew Scott that I’d recommend reading if you’re feeling the challenge of this phase of life!
