Fear of public speaking and how hypnotherapy can help

Whether it’s ‘introducing yourself to the group’, ‘saying a few words’ or shouting from the rooftops, speaking in public can strike fear into the hearts of many! We freeze, forget our words and clam up, going red, feeling our palms sweating and our breathing become shallow as we wonder if we could just pretend to take that phone call and slip out…

Unfortunately this scenario is all too familiar, and every time we experience it the response gets stronger as the amygdala takes over, making us feel that we’re in danger, even though our logical mind knows that we’re not. It can be incredibly frustrating too, you know that you’re capable and have great ideas to share, your presentation is polished and well researched, you just seem to have a gap between the information and the delivery.

I was recently asked to help with just this issue. My client really wanted to overcome their fear and had booked a speaking engagement a few weeks ahead to try to get past it, but as the time grew closer the usual feelings started to surface and they were doubting whether they could go through with it. Happily, after just a few sessions of hypnotherapy, the client’s fear became a distant memory and they were able to complete their speaking engagement, receiving very positive feedback!

This adjustment can be life-changing – allowing you to apply for the job you know you can do, promote your business more effectively or audition for the part at your local theatre, so if fear of public speaking is holding you back – why not get in touch?
