I’ve been thinking a lot about phobias lately. I’ve had several people reach out, desperate to book a holiday abroad but held back by a fear of flying. Some book the trip anyway—only to panic as the departure date looms! It’s not just about missing out on travel; phobias can lead to tension at home when loved ones don’t share or fully understand the fear.


I hear phrases like:

🛑 “I know it’s silly...”

🛑 “I feel really stupid...”

🛑 “I’m so embarrassed...”


But here’s the truth: phobias aren’t silly, and you’re certainly not stupid for having one. They develop for real reasons, and understanding those reasons is the first step to overcoming them.


I recently caught an episode of The Fear Clinic on Channel 4 (or rather, I peered at it from behind the sofa!). It focused on exposure therapy—where people are thrown headfirst into their fears. While this can work, let’s be honest… it’s not exactly fun!
